“Working at my service-learning site allowed me to apply real-life experiences to the textbook.”
– Service-Learning alumnus

As a service-learning student, you can make a difference in your community while meeting your academic objectives. Service-learning is learning in 3-D — it combines classroom instruction with community-based service. While you’re learning in the classroom, you’ll also go beyond the classroom to address important community issues.

Visit the online Schedule of Classes to find out about the service-learning courses offered each semester, and search by individual subject area (i.e., psychology, urban studies) and highlight “Service-Learning” under “Attribute.”

By participating in service-learning, you’ll find that the experience:

  • Enhances subject matter through a broader range of experiences and association.
  • Promotes an understanding and appreciation for the diverse backgrounds and life situations of the individuals in your community.
  • Encourages the exploration of an area of study or career option.
  • Broadens your perception of your own values and responsibilities as a citizen through critical reflection.
  • Actualizes the belief that through your actions, you can make a difference.

Here’s what some of our former students have said:
“It was nothing short of life changing. Being in this class and working with a service-learning organization will broaden and expand just about anyone’s mind if they let it.”

“Working at my service-learning site allowed me to apply real-life experiences to the textbook.”

“This experience gave a whole new facet to understanding the course content.”
