Responsibilities for community partners
To help you cultivate a constructive relationship with your service-learning students and faculty sponsor, the following expectations should be established.
Before the semester begins
- Send a completed Community Partner Application [Word document] to the Division of Community Engagement.
- Provide detailed and updated agency information and service needs to your faculty sponsor.
- Agree upon the terms and expectations of the project with your faculty sponsor.
- Know the distinction of service-learning in contrast to volunteerism, community service and other kinds of experiential education.
After the semester begins
- Orient students to your agency/community by scheduling a class visit with your faculty sponsor or setting up a meeting with your volunteer(s).
- Prepare and train students for their responsibilities as a volunteer.
- Supervise students at your agency, including signing their Service-Learning Student Contract [Word document] and Weekly Record Form [Word document].
- Communicate frequently with your faculty member throughout the semester about each student’s progress.
- Complete a Community Impact Survey [Word document] at the end of each semester.
