Responsibilities for community partners

To help you cultivate a constructive relationship with your service-learning students and faculty sponsor, the following expectations should be established.

Before the semester begins

  1. Send a completed Community Partner Application [Word document] to the Division of Community Engagement.
  2. Provide detailed and updated agency information and service needs to your faculty sponsor.
  3. Agree upon the terms and expectations of the project with your faculty sponsor.
  4. Know the distinction of service-learning in contrast to volunteerism, community service and other kinds of experiential education.

After the semester begins

  1. Orient students to your agency/community by scheduling a class visit with your faculty sponsor or setting up a meeting with your volunteer(s).
  2. Prepare and train students for their responsibilities as a volunteer.
  3. Supervise students at your agency, including signing their Service-Learning Student Contract [Word document] and Weekly Record Form [Word document].
  4. Communicate frequently with your faculty member throughout the semester about each student’s progress.
  5. Complete a Community Impact Survey [Word document] at the end of each semester.
