40 Acts of Caring

VCU celebrated its 40th Anniversary throughout 2007 and as part of the celebration, 40 Acts of Caring awards were given to projects, activities or initiatives that partnered VCU employees, students or alumni with local, regional or national/international communities.

America Reads

The America Reads program places university work-study students in local elementary schools to provide academic support to students who are below grade level in reading. Learn more.

VCU’s AmeriCorps program places students and community members in local elementary schools and after-school programs to support students who need academic assistance, especially with reading. Learn more.

Community focus areas

Through specific community initiatives, faculty, staff and students are actively engaged in the life of the city. Campus and community partners create a unique synergy of collaborative research, teaching and service focused on the community-identified needs. The Community Service Associates Program provides opportunities for faculty members to assist with projects of neighborhood groups, civic associations, governmental or professional organizations and nonprofit agencies. Learn more.

Council for Community Engagement

The Council for Community Engagement coordinates and facilitates community-based research, teaching and service between the university and its community. The council members represent all academic and major support units of VCU and VCU Medical Center. Learn more.

Lobs & Lessons

Lobs & Lessons is an after school program that promotes education and life skills for more than 100 Richmond area youth each year through the combination of mentoring, tutoring and teaching tennis skills. Learn more.

Service-Learning

Service-Learning is a course-based, credit-bearing educational experience in which students participate in an organized service activity that meets community-identified needs. TheCollegePlace

TheCollegePlace-Richmond is one of three college information centers where students and families can access free, comprehensive college-preparatory services, including counseling, assistance with admissions applications and financial aid forms, and scholarship research. Learn more.
