The Office of VCU Community Solutions recognizes that the critical issues of the community are not linked to just one academic discipline, but instead require the attention of many disciplines to find meaningful solutions. In addition to the faculty and staff participating on the interdisciplinary teams, VCU’s administrative offices and centers contribute resources to support the Early Childhood Development initiative.
Community Outreach Information Network
This program is designed to increase public awareness of high-quality and reliable health information for populations at risk for various illnesses such as cancer, diabetes and heart disease in the metro-Richmond region. COIN provides training on MedlinePlus, Spanish language resources and other health information tools to participating community organization staff so they can refer people to COIN. Learn more.

The Grace E. Harris Leadership Institute promotes the development of current and emerging leaders in academic institutions, other public, private and nonprofit organizations, and communities. Mid-Atlantic Addiction Technology Transfer Center Network
The Mid-Atlantic Addiction Technology Transfer Center Network is dedicated to identifying and advancing opportunities for improving addiction treatment. The network aims to unify science, education and services to transform the lives of individuals and families affected by alcohol and other drug addiction. Learn more.
Partnership for People with Disabilities
The Partnership for People with Disabilities maintains an interdisciplinary approach to all of its activities, which allows it to explore a wide spectrum of professional services and community interests as it seeks to expand opportunities to individuals with disabilities. Learn more.
Project UPlink
UPlink is a federally funded interdisciplinary training project designed to address the need to increase the number and quality of personnel serving young children (ages 0-5) with low-incidence disabilities and their families in diverse settings; build strong university-community partnerships for the preparation of qualified personnel in urban environments; and increase the number of professionals from traditionally underrepresented groups to serve children with low-incidence disabilities. VCU Head Start
The VCU Head Start program is sponsored by the School of Social Work and is funded as a delegate agency by Richmond Public Schools to serve 210 three- and four-year-old children within the city of Richmond. VCU Institute for Women’s Health
The VCU Institute for Women’s Health, a National Center of Excellence, was established to promote standards of excellence in women’s health care, advance cutting-edge research, foster community outreach and collaboration, enhance women’s leadership and provide training and education toward the goal of improving the health of women. VCU School of Education’s Center for School-Community Collaboration
The mission of the Center for School-Community Collaboration focuses on the prevention and reduction of youth problems in Virginia by working with school and community leaders throughout the state. The center’s training emphasizes community team efforts, and it provides follow-up technical assistance for parent, school and community groups. Learn more.
Virginia Department of Education’ Training and Technical Assistance Center
This center is involved in advocacy, training, consulting and systems change efforts with schools and interagency coordinating councils to create the highest quality of education and services.
