Every semester, students enrolled in service-learning courses from a variety of VCU schools and departments — including the Department of Art Education, Department of Psychology, School of Education and School of Social Work — volunteer daily at the Carver-VCU Partnership homework and tutoring lab.
VCU students tutor youth from Carver Elementary School in math, science, English and history. Students can access the homework and tutoring lab Monday through Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m.
Other volunteer opportunities exist for VCU students throughout the year, such as the Carver Health and Housing Fair. For more information regarding volunteer opportunities, please contact the community development coordinator at (804) 827-1904.
The Carver-VCU Partnership community program space and computer lab also are available to Carver residents and VCU departments and groups free of charge. The community space can seat 50 individuals and is equipped with audio visual hookups. The computer lab has 14 terminals, plus an instructor station. The lab also is equipped with audiovisual hookups. For information about reserving either space, please e-mail Elizabeth Pettit, office manager, or call her at (804) 828-8850.
