Carver-VCU Partnership Steering Committee

Since 1996, the Carver-VCU Partnership Steering Committee convenes to set priorities for the partnership, identify resources and monitor partnership activities. The committee is composed of representatives from VCU’s various departments, residents of the Carver community, and key staff from Carver Elementary School and city agencies. The president of CACIL and the VCU vice provost for community engagement serve as the committee’s co-chairs. Since its inception, nearly 20 members have served on the committee and many of the original committee members remain active to this day. The committee continues to be a vital force in directing the partnership and its agenda.

The Committee also has two sub-committees. The Community Building and Enrichment Subcommittee is designed to guide enrichment activities and outreach efforts of the Carver-VCU Partnership. This subcommittee focuses on the health and housing fair, tutoring lab, and other enrichment projects as assigned. This subcommittee is designed to work primarily with the Carver Master Plan. In addition to long-term support from VCU, the Carver-VCU Partnership has been funded from a variety of sources, such as the Aspen Institute, Jessie Ball DuPont Fund, the Reading Excellence Act, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Office of University Partnerships, U.S. Department of Justice, and Virginia Foundation for the Humanities and Public Policy.
