PAPR 591 Painting Workshop for Teachers

“This was a great experience and opportunity for me to explore myself as an artist and not just an art teacher.”
–'08 Participant, Painting

Summer 2010 dates TBA
3 graduate credits

This workshop involves a week completely devoted to making, viewing and discussing art. Mornings will be spent painting in a state-of-the-art VCU studio pursuing individual projects. Students may work in acrylic or oil and should bring basic painting supplies. Sally Bowring, a well-known Richmond painter and teacher, will instruct the studio class as well as lead the group in visits to area museums (including a day in Washington, D.C.), artists’ studios and galleries.

Painting Instructor Sally Bowring received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Goddard University in Vermont and her Master of Fine Arts in Painting and Printmaking from VCU. She has been teaching at VCU for 26 years.

What will you take home?

By the end of the week, you will have begun a body of work and will have new ideas and new techniques for your own art classrooms. You will be inspired by your fellow classmates, the studios and galleries you visit, and be better acquainted with the collections of area museums. Come be a part of the art scene in Richmond and go home refreshed and ready for new projects.

General information

It also includes an independent follow-up component (short paper or lesson plan) applying knowledge and skills learned during the summer to your instruction.
