PAPR 591 Mixed Media/Bookmaking Workshop for Teachers

“Loved the class--would absolutely take it again and would recommend it to all of my colleagues. Learned so much and can't wait to bring it to the classroom. Instructor was fabulous!”
–'08 Participant, Bookmaking

Summer 2010 dates TBA
3 graduate credits

This workshop will explore the many approaches to creating one-of-a-kind books. Students will be free to experiment with the concept of bookmaking, to incorporate personal artistic styles and journaling possibilities into the book format, and to use a wide variety of usual and unusual materials. Prior bookmaking experience is not necessary. Bookmaking students will have the option of joining painting students in visits to galleries and museums, including the trip to Washington, D.C.

Instructor Ginna Cullen is retired from the Louisa County school system where she taught art for 25 years. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mary Washington College and a Master of Interdisciplinary Studies degree from VCU. Since her retirement she has been teaching at VCU in the Off-Campus Graduate Art Program.

What will you take home?

By the end of the week, you will have begun a body of work and will have new ideas and new techniques for your own art classrooms. You will be inspired by your fellow classmates, the studios and galleries you visit, and be better acquainted with the collections of area museums. Come be a part of the art scene in Richmond and go home refreshed and ready for new projects.
