TEACHING ABOUT EAST ASIA IN A WORLD GONE FLAT

The purpose of this course is to enhance middle and high school teachers’ effectiveness in the teaching about East Asia, particularly contemporary China and Japan. The course is designed both as an opportunity to learn about this region from experts in academia and business and as an opportunity for social studies teachers to discuss their practice as it relates to the region.

General information

We will take a cross-disciplinary approach so you can expect to read and discuss history, politics, economics, and culture. The course will be conducted as a seminar so your input and participation is highly valued and crucial to the overall usefulness of the experience. Material in the course is aligned to Virginia’s Standards of Learning (SOLs).
