Continuing Studies

The Office of Continuing Studies is an incubator of new off-campus, for-credit initiatives. Through financial, administrative and programmatic support, the Office of Continuing Studies is a testing ground for new off-campus and continuing studies programs. Many of VCU’s Continuing Studies courses are offered in response to an expression of need from various groups in the region and state while others are developed from the creative ideas of university faculty and Office of Continuing Studies staff members.

The Office of Continuing Studies acts as a liaison between the university’s academic units and external communities, serving both as an initial contact point and as the provider of ongoing program coordination in the delivery of off-campus academic instruction. Timely, unique, flexible and affordable courses and programs can be individually designed to meet the needs of a company or organization. Various program options include on-site delivery of a nontraditional bachelor’s degree, an interdisciplinary master’s degree, certificate programs and individual courses created to meet a specific need.

The Office of Continuing Studies currently provides numerous opportunities for off-campus study in the Richmond metropolitan area and throughout the state. Off-campus credit classes feature the same course work available on campus and the courses are fully degree-applicable within the normal standards of the college and schools within the university.

• During the 2005-06 academic year, enrollments in continuing education/off-campus courses exceeded 13,250.
• During the 2005-06 academic year, 33,821 credit hours of continuing education/off-campus courses were delivered.
