John Adams

John Adams earned his B.F.A. from VCU and his M.F.A. with a concentration in painting and drawing from James Madison University. He is currently chair of the art department at Chantilly High School in Fairfax County. In addition to his teaching, he has received numerous honors, including a recent artist residency at Soaring Gardens Artist Retreat in Pennsylvania, and has exhibited widely in the Washington, D.C. area.

Carmen Alvarez-Keefer

Carmen Alvarez-Keefer earned a B.F.A. in studio art from the University of Texas at Austin and an M.S. in education from the University of Houston. An experienced educator, she presently is the art teacher at Virginia Run Elementary School in Fairfax County. Her latest exhibition is “Prints,” a juried show at the Ellipse Gallery. She is certified by the PMC Guild to teach precious metal clay.

Sally Bowring

Sally Bowring received her B.F.A. from Goddard University in Vermont and her M.F.A. in fine arts with a concentration in painting and printmaking from VCU. She has been teaching at VCU for 15 years. Sara Clark

Sara Clark received her B.F.A. in art history and her M.F.A. in fine arts with a concentration in painting from VCU and also holds a certificate in studio arts from the Holden School of Art in Charlottesville. She was a 1999-2000 recipient of a professional fellowship award for painting from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. She exhibits widely in the area, maintains an active painting studio and is on the adjunct faculty at VCU.

Sharon Clohessy

Sharon Clohessy received an M.A.E. from VCU in 2000 and a B.A. in art from Virginia Wesleyan College in 1992. She is currently a fine arts teacher specialist with Virginia Beach City Public Schools as well as an adjunct instructor at Virginia Wesleyan College and VCU.

Ginna Cullen

Ginna Cullen is retired from the Louisa County school system where she taught art for 25 years. She received a B.A. from Mary Washington College and an M.I.S. degree from VCU. Norma Daughtry

Norma Daughtry earned a B.S. in education with a concentration in art from Old Dominion University in 1981 and an M.I.S. degree from VCU in 2000. She has taught in Virginia Beach City Public Schools since 1982 and at Glenwood Elementary School since 2002.

John Figura

John Figura is visiting faculty in the Catholic University Department of Art in Washington, D.C. He has taught a wide variety of courses in the D.C. area, and his most recent exhibition was at Signal 66 Art Space last year. He received both his B.F.A. and M.F.A. degrees from VCU.

Bruce Fleischer

Bruce Fleischer earned an M.F.A. and M.A. in studio photography from the University of Iowa and a B.F.A. in studio arts and art teacher education at the Maryland Institute College of Art. He has his own photography business, Picture This Photography by Bruce Fleischer, and teaches at the Arlington Career Center, where he developed the digital imaging curriculum.

Travis Fullerton

Travis Fullerton earned a B.F.A. in communication arts and design and an M.F.A. in fine arts with a concentration in photography from VCU. He is currently both an assistant photographer at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and an adjunct instructor in VCU’s Department of Art Education where he teaches a topics class, “Photographic Techniques.” He is on the board of directors of the 1708 Gallery, where he served as president in 2007-08, and is a member of the Society of Photographic Educators. His latest solo exhibition was at the VCU Medical Center’s Stony Point Gallery.

Kurt Godwin

Kurt Godwin received his B.F.A. from the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C., and his M.F.A. from VCU. He teaches painting and drawing at a variety of locations in Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia. In addition to teaching, he exhibits regularly in the D.C.-metro area. Rebecca Graham

Rebecca Graham received an M.F.A. from the Maryland Institute, College of Art, Baltimore, an M.T. in education from the University of Virginia, and a B.A. in studio art with concentration in painting from U.Va. She taught middle school in Fauquier County and is currently teaching in Prince William County. Her work has been shown in several exhibitions in the Washington area.

Asha Jones

Asha Jones received her BA in Art Education from Marywood University and an MAE in Art Education from VCU. She has taught Computer Graphics and Animation in Fairfax County Public Schools since 1999 and has presented at NAEA and VAEA on the topic of teaching Animation. She has helped to develop the curriculum for Computer Graphics and Animation for FCPS. Asha is the department chairperson at Robinson Secondary School.

Brian Kirk

Brian Kirk received a B.F.A. from George Washington University in 1976 and an M.I.S. from VCU. He is the fine arts department chair at Stone Bridge High School. Kirk has traveled widely in Europe, Mexico and Asia, and offers a multicultural approach to creating 3-D art. An avid sculptor, his artwork has been published and is exhibited in the Washington, D.C. area and includes steel, copper, stone, mixed media, cast and fused glass, as well as ceramic tiles and sculpture.

Jenna McCracken

Jenna McCracken earned a B.A. in anthropology from the College of William and Mary in 1995 and an M.F.A. in ceramics from George Washington University in 2005. She currently teaches in the Graduate School at Hood College in Maryland and in the VCU Off-campus Graduate Art Program. Her work has appeared in numerous exhibitions, most recently at the Luthor Brady Art Gallery, Dimock Gallery and Connor Contemporary Art in Washington, D.C. Judy McLeod

Judy McLeod received a B.A. in fine arts from the University of California, Berkeley; a M.S. in art education from the Massachusetts College of Art, in Boston; and a M.F.A. in fine arts with a concentration in painting and printmaking from VCU. She is currently the visual art consultant, art teacher and program specialist for the Charlottesville public schools and serves as an adjunct faculty member at VCU and the University of Virginia. She exhibits widely and is represented in numerous private collections.

Kelly Mulligan

Kelly Mulligan received an M.F.A. in photography from Temple University, Tyler School of Art, in 2001 and a B.F.A. in visual arts-photography from Rutgers University, Mason Gross School of the Arts, in 1998. She has taught at George Washington University and the Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington, D.C., and has exhibited throughout the eastern part of the U.S.

Lynn Murphy

Lynn Murphy received an M.F.A. in fine arts with a concentration in sculpture from VCU in 1988 and a B.F.A. in painting and printmaking in 1982. She has been teaching at VCU since 1987 in sculpture and art foundation. Her most recent exhibition, at ADA Gallery in Richmond, was titled “Flutter.”

Amie Oliver

Amie Oliver was awarded a B.A. from Mississippi State University in 1982 and an M.F.A. from Bowling Green State University in mixed media graphics in 1984. She has been teaching in higher education in Virginia since 1986. Her mixed-media works have been published extensively and exhibited in galleries from New Orleans to Maine. Oliver’s experiences teaching painting, drawing, sculpture and Photoshop are most effectively combined in her mixed-media curriculum. Julia Pfaff

Julia Pfaff is a 2000-01 recipient of an Individual Artist’s Fellowship from the Virginia Commission for the Arts. Following a family tradition, she began quilt making at the age of 10. With an undergraduate degree in art history from the University of Toronto and an M.F.A. from VCU, she divides her time between being an educator and a studio artist. Her quilts have been exhibited at the American Craft Museum in New York, the Textile Museum in Washington D.C., at several locations in Canada and Japan, and are part of numerous collections including those of the Valentine Museum in Richmond, Va., and the Virginia Quilt Museum in Harrisonburg, Va.

Nancy Prichard

Nancy Prichard received a B.A. in art from Virginia Tech and a M.S. in art from Radford University. She recently retired from Virginia Beach City Public Schools, where she taught artistically gifted students at the Old Donation Center. She has exhibited widely and has numerous publications.

Jude Schlotzhauer

Jude Schlotzhauer is a full-time studio artist who has taught glass working for many years at VCU, VACR and as a visiting artist throughout the country and abroad. She holds a B.F.A. from American University and an M.F.A. from VCU. Her glass artwork is in numerous private and public collections and permanent installations including Capital One, Verizon, VCU Dining Center, Hampton Arts Commission, City of Richmond, Stuart School and U.S. Marine Corps Officers complex, Iwakuni, Japan. William Woodward

William Woodward grew up in Washington D.C., and earned his B.A. and M.A. from American University. He studied at the Corcoran College of Art and Design, and at the Accademia di Belli Arti in Florence, Italy. He is the former director of the painting program at George Washington University, and Professor Emeritus of Fine Art at the George Washington University. In 1989, he won the design competition for a silver dollar minted by the U.S Treasury, commemorating the 200th anniversary of the U.S. Congress. His most recent commission is from The National Trust for Historic Preservation for a mural at the new Lincoln National Monument in Washington, D.C.

Woodward has several decades of experience in creating narrative art. He was selected to paint “The Greatest Show on Earth” for Ringling Brothers, Barnum and Bailey Combined Shows, Inc., Corporate Headquarters in Tyson’s Corner, Virginia. His most notable works are “The Great Odyssey of Medicine” at the Conference Center of Fairfax Inova Hospital, and “A Loudoun County Story” at the Thomas Balch Library Mural in Leesburg, Virginia. His painting “Avarice” was awarded 1st Prize at the 49th Annual Exhibition of Contemporary American Art at the Society of the Four Arts Museum, Palm Beach, Florida, in 1995. He has been invited to the National Gallery of Art, as guest expert, where he presented two lectures and live demonstrations re-creating Titian’s “Venus Before the Mirror,” as a guest for the “Anatomy of Art: Techniques of the Old Masters” lecture series at he NGA. He has also been invited by the NGA on other occasions to create caricatures and cartoons for special events at the gallery.

Bob Worthy

Bob Worthy received his B.F.A., M.Ed. and M.I.S. degrees from VCU. He has taught fine art at the college level in Virginia since 1976 and pioneered online art classes for the Virginia Community College System. He exhibits locally and regionally and is a founding member of Exposure Unlimited, a group of artists from the Fredericksburg area who have exhibited together since 1985. In October 2000, Worthy was recognized at the Fredericksburg Regional Arts Awards, as an individual artist, for outstanding achievements and contributions to the cultural life of the greater Fredericksburg region. He also received a Certificate of Recognition from the Governor’s Awards for the Arts the same month.
